Katy Tur Inaccurately Claims Sen. Claire McCaskill Voted For Gorsuch

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur inaccurately claimed Thursday that Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Tur is currently on a college campus tour and was broadcasting her show from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. McCaskill is aiming for reelection and is deadlocked with her Republican challenger Josh Hawley in the state.

“McCaskill voted for Gorsuch, did not vote for Kavanaugh,” Tur said while interviewing a panel of potential voters.

“In talking about why she didn’t vote for Kavanaugh, she had a bit of a different reasoning than most Democrats did,” Tur reported, noting that McCaskill’s opposition to Kavanaugh was centered on concerns about “dark money.”

“Here is her statement: ‘I’ve been thorough in examining Judge Kavanaugh’s record. And while the recent allegations are troubling and deserve a thorough and fair examination by the Senate Judiciary Committee, my decision is not based on those allegations but rather on his positions on several key issues, most importantly the avalanche of dark, anonymous money that is questioning our democracy,'” Tur read.

Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Joe Donnelly of Indiana were the only Democrats to join the 52 Republicans in voting to confirm Gorsuch in 2017.
